Welcome to Valid Meditation
Discover the uniqueness and advanced 21st century integration approaches of Valid Meditation. Experience the art and science of practical meditation techniques.
Valid Meditation is an approach to share and teach the art, science and practice of valid forms and methods of Meditation. This is the fulfilment of a personal vision and efforts to create a true understanding of what Meditation is, particularly for the Western European mind, and to offer the methods of how to apply it.
What is a valid form of Meditation?
Much is made of Meditation today in popular culture, its merits and importance, with so many benefits. Many people practice or try to practice some kind of what they believe or have been told is ‘meditation’, or have been taught as ‘meditation’. With Valid Meditation we try to differentiate across many disciplines what we understand meditation to be, how to prepare, how to do it, how to know clearly what has happened, and is happening.
We try to explain what is the Art of Meditation, what is the Science of Meditation, and how to Practice… in a ‘practical’ way, so the benefits, types and methods can be not only effectively applied but also rationalised and understood with clarity, sensitivity and focus of effort.
How and Why
Where we have the “how” of Meditation, we are less concerned with the “why”. We know ‘why’ we practice; we are seeking a benefit. So let’s be clear that where we understand ‘how’ something is properly applied in order to reach an aim, we will be guaranteed of the precise result.
Science and Art of Meditation
The Science of Meditation is in the precision of how to mechanically achieve an end; we apply the rules and we attain the result. For those who wish to explore the Art of Meditation, the concern is with the subtle articulation of technique by various individuals, each of whom may have native biases or talents in certain areas. For instance the Eastern and Western psyches are different, and this regardless of where the person may be born and to which family history. Some individuals are extroverted and some introverted. Some have a strong masculine accent, some strong feminine, some quite balanced. Some have an education steeped in ancient history, some have little or none. Some individuals consciously adopt religious or philosophic, moral or ethical, behaviour precepts, some choose to agnostically disregard. Some perceptually acquire information quickly, some are slower and more thorough. Some are young, some older, each in body, mind and soul. The differences between persons and within persons is vast. We do well to consider this not only in the Art of our Meditation practice, but in the articulation of our relations as we live together in the world.
What Experience do we Offer
A warm welcome to a new and advanced integrated approach to Meditation, bringing together Art, Religion, Philosophy and Science. Within our offerings are Personal Consultations, Group Tuition, Courses, Workshops, and occasional Meditation and Study Retreats.
We hope you will be able to not only experience new ideas in what we offer, but to be able to take away a practical approach in how to integrate and embody the ideas & methods with meditation techniques and practical disciplines, in an individually self–responsible way. Knowing and seeing how meditation really works across many concepts and fields enables the individual to create their own meditations and to understand & interpret in the light of their own experience, for them self.
What is the Emphasis?
Valid Meditation is an “Individual” approach to Meditation, and encourages the Responsibility of the Individual. We aim at being less reliant upon the group, and the group mind-set. Ultimately, only the individual is able to initiate an adequate response and adapt to change in the world. Communities, nations, and the world in general respond so much more slowly, and usually over periods often greater than a lifetime. Cultural change extends to even centuries or millennia and for that we often must wait. It is the individual who is able to take responsibility for and adapt to accelerating change in the present moment, the present time, and from individual effort those around us may take a lead. Valid Meditation is for individuals, here and now.
What are the Origins of Meditation?
Meditation in history has evolved over centuries with each new artistic, religious, philosophic, and scientific advance. Today we aim to integrate these origins and advances.
In the documented sense 2500 years ago Meditation would be considered an Artistic ability resident to the most sensitive & gifted individuals who today might be considered the pioneers & initiators of human development and direction.
Eight hundred years ago Meditation was a Religious discipline confined to individuals within the walls of the monastery, temple, or secret society.
With the Renaissance, 14th to 17th Century, Philosophy brought an emphasis on the mind’s capacity for pure reason and rationale, more so than the refined feeling shown in previous periods.
By the 19th century, leading into the 20th century, modern Science was in the dawning and the original methods of Meditation now required very experiential material methods of approach and empirical evidence for results. Emphasis was largely withdrawn from the spiritual and deep soulish aspects of Meditation. It was not even any longer permitted to merely trust the individual’s mind and thought process, and the pure rationale in the mind. Focus was put squarely on the materially visible bodily effects & external behaviour comparison between those who have a valid meditation practice and those who do not. Extension of this visibility was even extended to the use of electronic instruments to measure physical body biomagnetic field responses. By extension, proof in the modern scientific period is to be observed in replicable trials upon physical bodies followed by a statistical analysis and a resulting binomial distribution of probability against a hypothetical success score. Today, people studying Meditation want scientific evidence, provable in scientific trials with electronic instruments as the measure of effectivity & reliability in achieving a chosen behavioural aim, whatever that aim may be. This has resulted through the 20th century in the human being becoming in a certain sense variously abstracted from the Meditation process, in favour of the requirement to observe so-called ‘concrete’ evidence, an accidental empirical ‘growing together’ of atomic data units split from an original continuum.
Of course in the pure scientific sense, with the splitting of the atom in the 20th century, like the first split of science, another revelation occurred. Consideration was forced beyond the atom into sub-atomic force fields & energy potentials. If the scientists of the period could have stopped at the atom and refrained from splitting the atom, science would have remained, by definition of the atom as unsplitable, valid. But curiosity reigned and led to the beginning of a return to the infinite field continuum of sentient power from which science originally derived. Meditation followed the scientific split, and to a degree has continued into an assessment of force fields, which is now leading back to that absolute from which Meditation’s primary journey began so long ago. Even the simplistic act of inducing physical changes in physical body chemistry by use of measurable physical chemical substances, is an attempt to scientize the subtle, non-scientific, process that Meditation was and remains. Despite being common today, the introduction of external substances into the physical body is an aberration from authentic Meditation. This culture shows the degree to which science has impacted an original process.
How then are we conduct our Meditation practices, if not by scientific experiment, in our current period? In short, it is suggested we attempt to integrate all of these approaches, Art, Religion, Philosophy and Science, firstly in small then in greater degree. This will give a sense of validity to our history and to our present. Our aim is to show how this Meditational integration can and will lead to greater individual and relational well-being and a reflexively conscious holistic life, in any place or world.
Meet the Teachings
Many of our teachings are based upon the work of the English artist Eugene Halliday, a little-known 20th century sage who integrated authentic meditational ideas, concepts & fields to a significant degree. Our aim is to offer an approach in how to apply and personally embody certain ideas, feeling assessments and motivations expressed in the past, both recent and distant, & to integrate them with practical meditation disciplines today.
The Broad Elements of Meditation
There are a number of fundamental elements which comprise the meditation process – terminology, definition, geometry, motivation, feeling assessment, etc.
There are culmination elements which verify the meditation process’ conclusion.
There are also a number of preparatory elements, practices which lead up to meditation proper, sometimes confused with meditation per se.
To be able to differentiate between preparatory, fundamental and culmination elements is essential for us to know what we are doing in Meditation in order to be able to apply, recognise and validate our efforts.
What Meditation Options Await?
The approach of Valid Meditation offers an extensive and expanding variety of meditation topics, these topics generally grouped into a number of categories. The main categories of meditation are in the fields of Art, Religion, Philosophy and Science of Physical Culture.
How Do We Start? | 8 Steps to Achievement
When starting out we show a simple 8 Steps to Achievement, steps which when understood and applied lead directly into excellent results and a recognisable development. We explain the language, we show how to apply the disciplines in each of the 8 Steps, and you receive the benefit from clear application. Here are the Steps:
- Relax & Prepare
- Let go of the Irrelevant
- Concentrate on an Interest
- Meditate with Type or Method
- Contemplate – reflexivity of consciousness
When you join a Group Class or Course or take a Private Consultation, we will show these steps and how to develop them in yourself. When understood, you can apply the Steps to an infinite, yes ‘infinite’, number of exercises in your personal practice, with us, or in your own time.
What we teach allows you to know the difference between Eastern and Western Meditation. You will know what your strengths are, as well as your shortcomings, and you will be able to capitalise upon, and remedy each respectively.
Whether you are a complete beginner or an experienced practitioner, something will be gained by joining us in a Group Class, Course, Workshop, Retreat, or with a Private Consultation, and we suggest you join any way you wish, at a time of your choosing.
Renew and Refresh your Mind
